MEMORIES OF DEGAS

Meg Giry from Phantom of the Opera

PURPOSE:

Photoshoot at the University of Waterloo's Humanities Theatre

MATERIALS USED:

Repurposed wedding gown, slippers

The finished dress, made to befit an 1880's ballet chorus girl.

The original wedding dress, purchased at a thrift store for $10. The sleeves were removed and made into a hair bow, while the skirt was cut in half and layered together to create more volume.

The finished dress, as modeled by Martina C. Satin slippers were bought, tea-stained ivory to match the dress, and blocked at the toes with foam.

The dress before hemming. A serger rolled hem was used to stop the chiffon from fraying, and create a nearly invisible hem for the dress.
