1880'S CORSET AND TOURNURE

PURPOSE:

Support and shaping for future costumes, including "Christine Daae"

MATERIALS USED:

Brocade, cotton, busk, eyelets, lacing

An effort was made to find suitable and authentic materials, such as a quality busk and spiral steel boning.

The finished corset and bustle, over a petticoat. Both were made using authentic period patterns from Truly Victorian.

A closeup showing the front of the corset, including the lace trim on the top edge.

An image showing the grommets and lacing, including the "ears" to pull the lacing from the middle.

The mockup of the corset, made to test fit and length.

Work in progress, with the busk installed. Each seam was converted into a boning channel, and sealed with binding at the top and bottom.

The finished corset and bustle, worn by Jackie M.
